The emphasis of this class is using color in portraits to create depth, liveliness and excitement! I will share my whole process of creating a Portrait Rug, from start to finish. Class work will include; the option of making a pattern from a photograph or painting, learning wide-cut blending techniques, using values, colors and textures to create a portrait, and tweaking as necessary. There will be a coloring portraits exercise, a review of color theory, and my step by step process of hooking the portrait. Finally, we’ll discuss various styles of rug finishing and gallery presentation.

Students will receive guidance on what is a suitable subject in email, mail or phone communication before class. I am happy to provide a custom pattern to any student that prefers it.
